Washington, DC is the heart of the American experience. From its celebrated symbols of patriotism, monuments to the past, and aspirations for the future, our Nation’s Capital is truly awe inspiring. The 720th Military Police Battalion Reunion is your opportunity to share and remember your own American experience. What a better place than Washington, DC to celebrate Memorial Day, you will have the opportunity to be part of one of the Country’s largest Memorial Day events. The VIP Veterans Tour is your chance to reflect on history as you tour Arlington Cemetery, the WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Memorials. The Super Sightseeing Tour will give you the chance to see some of the District’s most popular attractions. Digest history, experience the present and ponder the future of this most American of cities, during your outstanding reunion program. Don’t miss it!
Hotel Information
The reunion officially runs from Friday, May 28th until Tuesday, June 1st. You will be staying at the full service Sheraton Crystal City Hotel located at 1800 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Arlington, VA 22202. The Sheraton Crystal City Hotel is located close to many of Washington’s most popular attractions.
The hotel room rate is just $99.00 plus tax per night based on single or double occupancy. For those of you who would like to arrive early, the same room rate is available 2 days prior to the start of the reunion, and 2 days after the reunion, subject to availability. Please make your hotel reservations NOW by calling the hotel directly at 703-466-1111 between 9-4 pm EST. Be sure to ask for in-house reservations, and the 720th MP Battalion Reunion rate. You may cancel up until 48 hours before arrival at no penalty. You may request specific room types when you call to make your reservations (handicap accessible room, etc.). The hotel check-in time is 3:00pm. Please, don’t expect to get into your room before then. They will ask you for a deposit or credit card number to guarantee your room reservation. The hotel is holding rooms until they sell out or April 16th, 2010, whichever comes first.
Transportation & Directions
The closest airport is Washington National – Ronald Reagan (DCA). The hotel offers complimentary shuttle service ONLY from Washington National Airport. Please use the courtesy phone in the baggage claim area. For those of you driving to the reunion, you will receive a special parking rate of $10 overnight for self parking for the duration of the reunion.
Tours & Events
EVENT A: ARLINGTON CEMETERY & VIP VETERANS TOUR
Saturday, May 29th (9:00am-4:00pm)
This is going to be a very special morning at Arlington Cemetery, where you will ride the tram up to the “Tomb of the Unknown” and watch the famous “changing of the guard” ceremony. Then proceed to view the Kennedy gravesite, the monument honoring the Military Police Corps, and the Eternal Flame. The tram will pass Arlington House, as you return to the Visitor’s Center. This is a wonderful and moving experience for everyone. Lunch will be on your own at a suitable location, followed by a tour of some of the Memorials. Begin with a visit to the WWII Memorial. America's newest National Memorial is a lasting tribute to the World War II generation. The tour will continue at the Korean War Memorial, and the Vietnam Memorial. There will be plenty of time to visit these Memorials before returning to the hotel. Be sure to wear your walking shoes. Don't forget your camera!
EVENT B: WASHINGTON, DC SUPER SIGHTSEEING TOUR:
Sunday, May 30th (9:00am-3:00pm)
This fabulous sightseeing trip is a must while visiting DC. You will see the most famous sights that make Washington so spectacular. As you board your luxury motor coach, your professional tour guide will relate interesting anecdotes while you enjoy a "windshield” tour of DC, with several photo stops along the way. Some of the sights that you will see include the White House, Capitol Hill, The Senate, the Pentagon, Fords Theatre, Watergate, the Kennedy Center, the Washington Monument and much more, as time permits. Lunch will be on your own at a suitable location.
BANQUET DINNER
Sunday, May 30th (7:00pm at the Hotel)
Join your friends for your Banquet Dinner at the Hotel. Cocktails will be available from the cash bar at 6:00pm; dinner will be served at 7:00pm. Please make your entrée selection on the reservation form.
DAY TO EXPLORE ON YOUR OWN
Monday, May 31st
What better place than Washington, DC to celebrate Memorial Day. The District offers many celebrations, most of which are free of charge. Don’t miss the National Memorial Day Parade along Constitution Ave, featuring marching bands and veteran units from all 50 states. There are many activities along the National Mall and nearby streets. You are encouraged to take the Metro to the Mall to take part in the festivities; Metro maps will be available at registration.
TOUR CANCELLATION INSURANCE
Protect yourself from unforeseen expenses caused by sickness, injury or any other causes that impact your travel plans. This insurance enables a refund of Tour & Banquet expenses up until three (3) days before the start of your reunion. If you need to cancel – please call our office immediately (817-251-3551) for a cancellation number. If you have not purchased cancellation insurance all tour and meal money is non-refundable 6 weeks prior to the reunion.
Important Reunion Notes:
~ Tours may be cancelled if a minimum of 30 people per bus is not met. In this case, full refunds will be given.
~ Please understand that a certain amount of walking is necessary from the bus to attractions and in some instances to also see the attractions. Please consider your abilities before purchasing tours.
~ Be sure to bring photo identification (like a driver’s license) on all events.
~ All tour times are subject to change. A final itinerary is available at registration.
